Production Update

In our last update, we told you that our Director of Engineering, Stefan, found that the quality of the hinges had been compromised and that we were working to find a solution for those hinges.

Well, a new hinge material has been identified and thoroughly tested and we are excited to be shipping boats out (present tense! - as in, they’re currently going out the door and on their way to you this week!) Learn more about the new material from Stefan in this video:

The first 100 boats to go out this week are part of our final test for the new hinge material. We will be shipping them connected by the rotational pins so they will require minimal assembly on arrival. Don’t worry - directions will be included and instructional videos are only a click away!

If all goes well, we will ramp up production and shipping will start moving faster. If not, we will make adjustments until we get it right because we want you to have the best possible experience from start to finish!

This is also awesome news for everyone who has been patiently waiting for their Origami Paddler to arrive - we’re back in production and we will be shipping new boats this week!

Rhodochrosite Pink should be starting production this week, as well, which means we will finally have all the colors in stock and can get back to shipping in the order of your purchase.

Those of you who already have their Origami Paddler will be receiving new hinge kits as soon as possible. These will include the parts, pieces, and tools you need to replace your hinges so that you can get back out on the water and back on your journey to finding inner peace. You will need to reuse the hinge pins, hinge cords, screws, and bungee cords that are currently with your Paddler so be sure to save them!

For both our Kickstarter Backers and our Website Pre-Orders our most current timeline updates can be found here.

We feel so loved by all of you that have been so supportive and encouraging this past year and especially these past few months. As we’ve encountered hurdles and obstacles, you have cheered us on in finding solutions and we are so grateful for that. Thank you for sharing the Origami Spirit with us!

FAQ

How long will the shipping test take?

Our goal is to ramp up production as quickly as possible and get replacement hinges to everyone who needs them. We expect to ship thousands of boats in October and every month thereafter.

When will I receive my Turquoise/Citrine/Carnelian/Rhodochrosite boat?

We expect to have all the colors produced and be able to get back to shipping in order of order number by the end of September.

Where are the Pink paddlers?

We will be starting to produce Rhodochrosite Pink Paddlers this week and will go back to Turquoise after that batch.

When will I be getting my survey?

All Kickstarter backers should have received their surveys already. If you haven’t, please reach out to our Community Liaisons at support@origamipaddler.com. If you are a pre-order customer, your survey hasn’t been sent yet. We really appreciate your patience!

I’m a pre-order customer, when am I getting my Origami Paddler?

Check out our timeline here: https://www.origamipaddler.com/pages/timeline

We update it regularly to make sure that you have the most up to date information possible.

How do you know the hinges aren’t going to break during shipping?

Our new material has proven to be much stronger in shipping tests. See the video above and those on our social media pages. The new hinges made with the trade-secret material survived the drop tests and the "Roll-the-Paddler-Down-the-Hill- test, so we are confident in their durability.
